Orlando City gains road points heading toward playoffs

Rookie sensation Duncan McGuire proved his mettle once again, scoring his 10th goal of the season just before halftime to secure a vital 1-0 victory for Orlando City against host Nashville SC on Wednesday night. McGuire's goal, brilliantly set up by Martin Ojeda, solidified Orlando's position in second place in the Eastern Conference, with only two regular-season matches left to play. Orlando City has been on a remarkable run since July 1, boasting a record of 9-2-2. The win also marked their league-best eighth road victory of the season, a testament to their strength away from home. It was a particularly sweet victory, ending an eight-match winless streak against rival Nashville SC. Remarkably, neither Orlando's Pedro Gallese nor Nashville's Joe Willis had to make a single save throughout the game. However, Gallese's clean sheet was historic, marking his 10th shutout of the season, setting a new single-season franchise record for Orlando. Despite Nashville's 8-2 edge in shot attempts, Orlando held firm, maintaining control with 56.6% possession. Fafa Picault of Nashville missed two early opportunities, but neither team managed to put a shot on target until Orlando's breakthrough in the 44th minute. Mauricio Pereyra's superb play down the left wing set up Martin Ojeda, who delivered a precise pass into the box for McGuire to slot home. The goal, though closely examined for offside, was rightfully upheld. The first half saw some heated moments, with three yellow cards issued, all to Nashville players. The second half escalated in intensity, with physicality and theatrics on display. Gallese endured a few challenges in the box, showcasing his resilience. Despite 11 minutes of stoppage time in the second half, Nashville couldn't capitalize on their chances. The match's final moments included a dramatic long throw-in by Nashville near Orlando's net, but Orlando regained possession. To cap it off, Daniel Lovitz of Nashville was shown his second yellow card for an altercation in the dying moments. This hard-fought victory is a testament to Orlando's determination and strength, and it keeps their playoff hopes burning bright. The Lions are roaring, and their fans couldn't be prouder! #OrlandoCityForever ⚽🦁
